Azuma
A playful, sociological reflection on the animate and inanimate body, Azuma is an exploration of the contemporary forms that otherness takes in our lonely, patriarchal society.
The show invites the audience to discover the phenomenon of the Love Dolls, through a very simple experiment: see one of these lifelike dolls come to life in the hands of the performers and feel what its existence does to us, individually and collectively, here and now.
Beyond the surprise and amusement, I’m trying to understand the contradictory sensations that such a practice gives me. What amuses me as a former doll player, intrigues me as a director, upsets me as a woman and revolts me as a feminist?
